By definition, menopause is marked by the end of your menstrual cycle and absence of periods for at least one year.

It may be natural or surgical (removal of uterus and ovaries). The average age of menopause in Canada is 51, but women can go through “the change” as early as age 40 or well into their 60s. The timing of menopause is affected by your genes, body type and medical history.
